BOOKS ARRIVED! FREE COPY!

A box of books from Barbour awaited me outside my door this morning. I hadn't ordered any. Too early to have copies of Bridge to Love yet (besides, the box was too big for that book). It finally clicked. Must be one of the devotionals

I have many copies of Heavenly Humor for the Cat Lover's Soul. I have had a cat all through my life, including my current "owner," Talia. I contributed 4 stories about my various feline companions to this book.

So ... in addition to the "one free book for 15 comments" this month, I am offering a copy of Heavenly Humor for the Cat Lover's Soul to one lucky cat lover out there. Tell me why you're a cat lover. (Beverly, I know this challenge will appeal to you. The rest of you, surprise me!)

Cats make great pillows :) And my cat will snuggle with me when I'm n a bad mood.

Cats add love and humor to my life. They talk to me and I understand them. They have a specific body language particularly with their ears and tail that alerts me to catitudes of impatience or listening to my voice. They are so cute and playful, entertaining without trying. Best of all, I love a cat on my lap purring and batting at the yarn while I'm crocheting. They can be a nuisance, but that's their way of demanding attention now. What's so unhuman about that? They are beautiful, cute, scrawny and smart, all sizes, some furry, some not...placed here by God long ago. Cat's seem to have a knowledge all their own. They fascinate me. They are soft and cuddly and they love be, because I'm soft and cuddly too. Always the cat's meow where pets are concerned.

Have a furry nice day,

In the first year of my marriage, we got a kitten whom we named Spunky. Enough said on the name. One evening after dark, it escaped outside. I ran out, spotted him, scooped him up and held him tight to me so he wouldn't get away form me again. I came inside and was cuddling him up to my shoulder. I put him right smack dab in front of my face and started to say, "Spunky, you shouldn't...." then I suddenly screamed and immediately threw the cat straight out from my body with quite a bit of force. Thankfully, being a cat, he landed unharmed on his feet -- with the mouse STILL in his mouth. Eeeeeew! I get the heebie jeebies just thinking about it. Needless to say, my hubby and his best friend thought the entire episode was hilarious. I, however, was not amused. Twenty-one years later, I have begun to see the humor in it and it's one of those stories that never seems to die.

That's probably one of my funniest cat stories.

Oh, I LOVE these stories. If I ever get to write another humorous cat story, I know where to come. They make me smile. What would we do without our constant companions?

I AM having a "furry" happy day.

How could I not be a cat lover! Each one of them is delightfully unique, just like my regular children whom God did not bless with fur. I met my Mister Majestic' Robbie, when he was close to two weeks old. I climbed in closet and sat still next to where the litter was nestled. Four pairs of slits for eyes and rosebud ears turned toward me. The daring one stumbled on wee little paws toward me, his Irish red fur prickled up, while the others mewed for their Mama who had gone to eat some dinner. Closer he came until he reached my knee. Determined he put his tiny paws on my foot, peeked up at me and hissed. And what an eloquent hiss it was! With that my heart was his and as I left he tried to follow me. But I could not have the joy of another cat at that time. I had just lost my beautiful Main Coon cat, Miss Weedy to kidney failure, and within days of meeting Robbie I would lose my Mr. Ninea from cancer. I mourned my dear fur children. I spoke to God and told Him that I would not seek anymore cats, If he wanted me to have anymore He would have to surprise me with one. I never told anyone about that prayer. Five weeks later I received a phone call from one of the women in my Sunday school class, "Miss Gini, I would love to surprise you with a kitten tomorrow morning in Sunday school, would it be alright?" The key word being surprised. I asked her to bring the kitten over that night. What delight and joy when the Majestic one was delivered to my door. She sat him down and he pranced over to me and hissed, then jumped up in my lap and purred. Within six months God sent two other surprises to join our family. Charlie Dickens and Miss Sassy. Thank you Jesus for fur children.

Where oh where to start? I've had so many cats, but the first one comes to mind is a Siamese kitten we found on Halloween night on the way home from our school carnival when I was in junior high. Now we lived in the country a mile past the cemetery & wouldn't you know it, the little kitten ran across the road right in front of the cemetery! Of course we three girls yelled for Dad to stop so we could rescue the kitten. Mom said we could keep it if it was a male, which it was. I named him "Siam" and he became my pillow warmer. Now I should mention I also had a terrier mix dog at this time that also slept with me at the foot of the bed. As the kitten grew, he became jealous of the dog and actually bit me twice when I was petting the dog instead of him! My school friends were afraid of Siam for a long time because he was found on Halloween night at the cemetery - they were convinced he was an evil cat!

There is nothing like a cat for company, when you are feeling sad or sick. There is just something about their antics, whether young or old, that can delight and enrich your life. Their purring is a soothing sound and looking in their eyes is mystifying.

Such wonderful stories! My challenge in this book (I have 4 stories in it) wasn't sweet cat stories (those we all have in abundance) but somewhat humorous stories (humor isn't my thing.) But Talia, Pinkie and Myster helped.

My cats make me laugh when I'm sad. Lift me up when I'm depressed. Keep me company when I am lonely. Give me hope when I have lost mine. And remind me of how much God loves Man that he made cats to take care of us and watch over us.
